Chris,
The current plate designs do not allow for them to be rotated for Q*Bert. I attempted this on my very first prototype, but I had to compromise the design too much to make it work properly, and the diagonal blocking suffered.
However, I could make a Q*Bert plate kit that would fit in the place of the diagonal restrictor plates if there was enough interest.
