I decided on Macintosh 8pin miniDIN for my swappable CPs. The major draw back is MAME and IPac support a maximum of 8 buttons and a ground, but the 8pin on the miniDIN includes 7 and a ground. Ohh well.

: I have to believe that just about anything would work. I wound up using 15pin VGA connectors.

: : If you have the right tools to crimp them easily with a connector, go for it. May have to use 2 plugs per player control. The point being Molex connectors are expensive! I've recently been using DB25 connectors with ribbon cable (much cleaner wiring) and Radio Shack has them on clearance for $0.69 each! I bought them all up around my area :-)

: : : Has anyone else thought of using or used standard ethernet cabling and couplers for a way of using quick connects and/or swappable control panels? Granted, with only 8 wires, you'd need a few for a CP with a lot of buttons or different kinds of controls, but the simplicity of it would seem to make sense.
