Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. That solves the problem nicely. I knew there was some reason why mobo manufacturers still included that otherwise-useless pair of serial ports on modern motherboards :D

BTW, I'm not hacking any mice. I'm using one of those CompUSA crystal trackballs. (It was on sale for $9.95... sure I'd rather have a real arcade trackball but at one-tenth the price, what could I do?)

Come to think of it, the trackball might even have come with a PS/2-to-serial adapter. Haven't opened it yet.
