: Few questions (since I know a bunch of you know your routers).
: I just got a router and haven't even got a bit for it (btw, what bits should I get as a minimum?)
: Anyway, I would like to sink some switchs into the side of my cabinet (they are cool switches I got from a government action and using for power). Anyway, I need to sink them about 1/4 inch if I put them in the side (where they will be easy to get to). But I've never used the router before (will play with it first) but can you do it horizontally without danger of over drilling? Anything I should watch out for?
: Thanks!
If you are just looking to set your switch into a circular depression, you'd be better of drilling the hole with a forstner drill bit and a drill the appropriate size. These bits leave a flat bottomed hole. And, they are for drills, not routers. If you tried to do the same thing with a fixed base router, it's harder to drop the spinning bit in place to just drill a circle without building a jig. If you have a plunge router, then its a different story.
