: Few questions (since I know a bunch of you know your routers).
: I just got a router and haven't even got a bit for it (btw, what bits should I get as a minimum?)
Most cases you just need one or two non-edge cylinder bits (straight sides, w/o an edge roller on the bottom). I suggest one small and a bigger one. The smaller one will do sharper corners, but the bigger one routers faster.
Most other shapes are just for fancy edging. Okay if you want something fancy....
: Anyway, I would like to sink some switchs into the side of my cabinet (they are cool switches I got from a government action and using for power). Anyway, I need to sink them about 1/4 inch if I put them in the side (where they will be easy to get to). But I've never used the router before (will play with it first) but can you do it horizontally without danger of over drilling? Anything I should watch out for?
Be careful if the router is heavy. The best bet would to lay the cab on its side. If you can't do that, at least clamp a 2x4 tightly to the cab under the router to rest on while routering. Use this to guide the router, so the router doesn't fall and router the whole side of the cab!
And I repeat what Samck said, "Make sure the bit is on tight!"
Good luck!
