Yes, there have been other programs that have come out recently that really are better than ArcadeOS. There are not that many frontends that are truly built for arcade machines (i.e. fully configurable buttons and stuff). For a good DOS frontend check this out:

Game Launcher - This is a very good frontend in my opinion because it is very simple and looks very nice. It supports any truetype fonts and you can use multiple emulators with it. Mame, Nesticle, Snes9x, Stella etc. In my opinion it's the BEST DOS frontend out there. Just wish the author updated it some more. It really is a good one.

Well I know that everyone out there building cabinets does NOT want to boot up to stupid Micro$oft windows on their cabinet. I know I don't want too. A plain DOS boot machine is want I want. But unfortunately, now for the official Mame developers, their Windows32 version of Mame is the OFFICIAL version. It really is better than DOS mame because it is able to take advantage of all the fancy stuff in Windows so you can get good video modes and stuff. So unfortunately now I am going to switch my cabinet over to a WIndows boot machine. So now I need to get a good 'arcadeos-like' frontend for windows that is configurable and that will work good for a cabinet. Here are the best two I have found:

Cocktail Frontend Similar to Game Launcher but for windows. Good Frontend for cabinets.

Also MameWAH Haven't tried it yet but similar to Cocktail frontend I think. Looks good and is for windows.

: I've been out of the loop for a while so I apologize if this is a really basic question .. but is there any front end now far and away better than arcadeOS since it stopped updating?

: Also, I read on the arcadeOS site:

: "The reason I'm stressing the (still works for older versions of MAME) bit is that,
: as most of you have no doubt discovered, from MAME 0.53 onwards tweaked modes have been dropped

: Which basically means no more VGA arcade monitor modes in MAME"

: so are people here using arcade monitors just using mame 0.53 and not upgrading?

: Thanks,
: Chad
