: No!!!! Don't do it!!
: You need to use an isolation transformer. IF you don't, you've got a 50/50 chance of instantly blowing up a bunch of parts on the monitor and hurting yourself if you're touching the metal casing or any metal that's commoned to the casing. If you plug the prong in one way, it'll be fine and it will fool you into thinking it works fine to do that, but next time you plug it in, if you plug it in the other way around, all hell breaks loose!!!
: Have fun.

: : I recently obtained 2 19" Nintendo arcade monitors.
: : (There is a built-in color inverter board on the unit)
: : It appears to have a standard 2 prong plug.
: : Can I plug this into a standard house outlet for power?
: : Also can anyone help me with trying to interface it to
: : my ATI Video Xpression+ PCI vga card?
: : HELP!
The monitor you are reffering to is from a early nintendo game. These monitors use inverted rgb signals and MOST IMPORTANT 100 Volts.. Yes 100 not 120....
There is a faq somewhere to step down the voltage.
I did it myself several years ago and just remember it requires and 24v ac transformer.
Try the arcade collecting newsgroup. r.g.v.a.c
(rec.games.video.arcade.collecting) I believe.
The monitor will power up with the higher voltage but don't exepect it to get a good picture or last very long...
