Want to help a museum?
[Link]

New forum member asbestosforlunch is asking for some ideas:
Hi I volunteer at a museum in central New Jersey, and I am working on an exhibit which I believe could be improved with MAME cabinet-type equipment and software. The exhibit is a Cold War era fallout shelter, which is stocked with old Civil Defense rations and other supplies. I also have a computer connected to a large television and a surround sound system, for the purpose of displaying movies and sound clips. Because someone cannot always be at the exhibit when the museum is open, I am trying to make it somewhat autonomous, or at least idiot proof.

My idea is to use arcade controls to limit what someone could do with the computer, and use a front-end to block out the rest of whatever OS I would be using. A friend of mine recommended this site to look for help when he heard my basic idea. When I started reading out the material used for this, it sounded perfect. I'm not sure I'll ever build a MAME cabinet, but I do have two pinball machines in the basement :)

Jump in if you think you have an idea or two that could help!

Free Portal!
[Link]

You've probably seen this, but for those who haven't -- Hoopz let us know that Steam has Portal available for free from now until the 24th. I haven't played, but I'm told Portal is one of the "must try" games out there. Some folks don't get it, some folks love it. Steam is a download gaming service with a small client that runs on your machine to handle the licensing. Supposed to be fairly unobtrusive. I usually resist such things but for free...?

Check this out! Melissa Jones of Nice Carvings, carves 4ft tall Centipede!
[Link]
If you haven't heard about Nice Carvings and Melissa Jones, you need to check them out. Melissa's been doing arcade carvings for some time now (they look great, I have a bunch on my wall), but she's outdone herself now. Take a look at this 4 foot tall Centipede! Hmm... Pac Man shelf on one side, 4' tall Centipede on the other...

New project - A MAME cab's tale
[Link]

Added A MAME cab's tale to the examples page.

The author had this to say about their project:

This isn't exactly a build log, but it is a good overview of an arcade cabinet I built off Lusid's designs over the course of a couple years. It's me telling the story of my cabinet as much as I talk about it's construction.

This makes 1253 projects in the new database so far!

mamemarquees.com is now gameongrafix.com!
[Link]
From Scott @ gameongrafix.com --
We have a new name, and a new website!

After 7yrs we made the decision to change our name to Game On Grafix. Mamemarquees.com worked well when all we did was Mame Marquees, but in the last 7yrs we have grown, and now offer many more products. The Mamemarquees.com site will live on and we will still be doing business under the Mamemarquees LLC .. We plan to keep the Mamemarquees.com site alive for link integrity, but all the products will eventually point back to the new site. Down the road I would like to turn it into a blog and/or forum site, but that is “down the road”

We are bringing many new items and options to the new site:

Adhesive backed marquees Marquees Pre-mounted to plexiglas Contour cutting and die cutting of buttons holes and complex cuts. Easier interface for ordering customer designed items Pinball translites Vinyl Button stickers (still tweaking these) Vinyl Joystick surrounds Lower over all prices Help desk, (so no more lost or spammed emails) Live Chat

We look forward to providing you with the same quality and service you've been accustomed to for years.

    Scott
