(This one's for Nivo - now appearing
in the chat room nightly!)
Stick-It sticking it?
Starting off on a sour note,
it appears that Stick-It
may be out of business. I've received no official notification at
all, but they have not responded to any emails for months, have not delivered
the Stick-It II that was due in April, and I've got at least one report
of non-delivery of a paid for product. Stick-It, if you're out there
and want to give a statement please email
me.
Arcade Movie taken offline
I've temporarily taken the
MAME Arcade movie offline - it was killing the bandwidth on the alternate
site I was hosting it on. I'll fix the link soon.
New (old) arcade cabinet
Jeff sent me this some time
ago, but I've been bogged down of course. Take a look at Jeff's
ULTIMATE MAME Arcade Machine! It's a very cool scratch-built
arcade cabinet, with downloads to help you duplicate his efforts.
This makes project #171! Thanks
Jeff!
New arcade cabinet
Check out Flynn's
Place, an arcade cabinet project with a very cool web page. This
makes projec t#172! Will we see
200 by New Years? Thanks Flynn!
EmuAdvice!
Been to EmuAdvice
lately? EmuAdvice is one hell of a web site with oodles of info on
optimizing your emu-gaming experience. One of our message board regulars,
Marshall Brooks, has written up a couple of excellent articles. The
first entitled "HOW TO HACK A KEYBOARD FOR USE IN MAME" is a very detailed
guide to doing just that. The second is entitled "How to make MAME
display full screen without adjusting your monitor" - another excellent
writeup. References to both of these will be making their way into
the appropriate places on the FAQ. Thanks for the heads up to KillerClown
and kudos to Marshall!
CWSDPMI added
JustMichael suggested adding
CWSDPMI to the downloads page since it's required by several emulators,
so ... here tis (40 kb, version
4). Thanks JM!
Soldering Clinic
Steve let me know that his
site, Steve's
MacMAME Arcade Experiment has been updated. One of the most notable
updates/additions is the Solder
101 soldering seminar - wow! This is one hell of a writeup -
kudos to Steve on the excellent presentation! A must visit for both
soldering novices and experts alike. Thanks Steve!
Arcade Auction
USAA (auction company) is
having an amusement equipment auction on September 30, 2000, south of Louisville,
KY., at the Paroquet Springs Conference Center.
New arcade cabinet
Added JJ's
Arcade Cabinet to the list - a scratchbuilt cabinet, still a fairly
new web site. This makes project #173!
Link fixed
The link to the Defender
theme has been fixed (actually, link was good but file was corrupted
- fixed). Several folks have reported other bad links in the downloads
section, which I'll be tackling shortly. Thanks for the heads up!
New arcade joystick
Ng sent me a link to his site,
Project Pseudo-Digital. This is a desktop arcade joystick project,
in both English
and Chinese.
Thanks Ng! This makes 174 projects
now!
Neo Geo Pad on your PC?
Added a link to a new web
site, Zerofil's Neo
Pad on PC. This is a write up of how to use a Neo Geo game controller
on a PC using an SNES pad as a relay. Very cool. Thanks Zerofil!
New arcade cabinet
EmuMannen sent me his project,
the Eurocab
2000. The project is in Sweden/Scandinavia and is the first I
know of in that neck of the woods. A nicely done web site.
The cabinet uses the I-Pac and the Opti-Pac, with parts from Suzo.
Thanks EmuMannen - this makes project #175!
HELP WANTED!
Are you good at Perl and/or
PHP3? Have a few hours to donate to cook up a couple of specific
scripts for BYOAC? If you're interested, please let me know.
I don't have the time to get up to speed on them enough to do what I want
to do in a timely fashion, and the web site is suffering for it.
There are three specific scripts I'm wanting, that I expect will be relatively
simple. I can offer very little in the way of compensation other
than gratitude, but I can offer credit posted on the web site, a copy of
the Hanaho Capcom Coin-Op Classics Volume 1 CD, and would be willing to
discuss financial compensation -- but I'm very poor :) The scripts
I'm looking for are:
-
An online web page updater, so we can
post news updates instead of manually editing the HTML like is currently
done. Able to have multiple users/passwords.
-
Modification of the wwwboard admin script
- presently it only allows deleting messages by clicking the bullet next
to each one - very tedious. It has functionality to be able to delete
by date, or by author, but they do not function. I believe this is
a bug in the stock wwwboard code, but it is also very possibly due to the
fact that I've modified the wwwboard script, which results in slightly
modified html in the wwwboard.
-
An arcade project submission system, that
would allow a user to enter a web address, click a few bullets or check
boxes to select certain default answers/categories, and enter a few lines
of free text. This would then populate a database, and be flagged
as unapproved. Then through another form, authorized users (name/password)
would be able to edit and flag as approved the entry. At this point,
it would be added to the list of projects on the examples page. OK
- this one doesn't sound so simple :)
These would be a great help in running
the web site, and would allow me to concentrate on adding content instead
of spending all my time maintaining the site. If you can help with
any of these scripts, please let me know.
Thanks!
MORE TO COME!
As always, there's much more
to come. I *think* I have caught up on all submissions of new arcade
cabinets or stand alone desktop controls. If you've got one I haven't
added, please let me know!
9/11/00
(OK JustMichael - this one's for you)
PowerRamps no longer available.
Updates are going to be brief
so I can catchup. PowerRamps from act Labs are no longer available,
and apparently won't be. Thanks to Stan for the email!
New standalone console
Cristian sent us word about
his new MacMAME standalone arcade controls, dubbed MacMAME
Blackbox Arcade Control. This makes project #171!
Cheap PSX Trackballs
Brian passed this one on --
loking for a cheap PSX trackball? Nice for either a PSX cabinet,
or for hacking for a PC project, they're available from NKYO for $9.99.
Visit their web
site, and click the bargain bin. Thanks Brian!
New OzSticks!
Always happy to see someone
making a go of things commercially in this hobby ... Chris has updated
his web
site with some great news! Two new products, the OzStick
twin (149 Aus dollars), and the OzStick
Ultimate (tenatively 230 AUS dollars), and new pricing on the OzStick
original (99 AUS dollars), now dubbed the single. The new sticks
should be available in 2 weeks. Way to go Chris!
More to come...
Much more to come of course
- I meant to get all new projects added tonight but sleep rears it's ugly
head...
