vertical / horizontal arcade monitor question

Since the majority of arcade games seem to have horizontal orientation, it makes sense to me to go with a horizontal monitor in my cabinet project (I want 25" but do not want to alter for a rotating mount if I can avoid it). This leads me to a couple of questions:

1. If I get a 25" horizontal monitor and run a vertical game (i.e. PacMan) at its intended aspect ratio, what size would the image be? I don't mean I would pick a mode that fills the screen, but one that shows the tallest possible image and has black bars on each side (kind of like letter-boxing on TV). Would the resulting image be near the size of an original PacMan display?

2. Will somebody please measure their 25" monitor and post the width and height of the largest viewable image.

3. Will somebody please measure their PacMan (or other vertical game) and post the width and height of the image.

4. Rotating monitor question: When you rotate a monitor 90 degrees from its intended orientation, what happens to the scan lines (I mean the real ones, not the ones generated by MAME)? Aren't they now vertical?

I don't mind letter-boxing on the vertical games if the image is at least close to the "right" size. Any input will be appreciated.
