Check out my Ms.Stacie (Ms.Pacman with a few hacks) cabinet as it has a monitor on it's back and rotated.
I found that you need to make sure it's cold when you turn it on it's side, leave it there for a little while and then when you turn it on it should be fine.
I had originally disgarded the idea of rotating a monitor in my cab because I tried it once (with the same monitor actually) and it was still warm and the results were very crazy color distortions. Had I left it like that for awhile it would have been fine. This monitor is about 4 years old.
