I didn't build a cocktail cabinet, but did use safety glass as the front glass on my cab...
I got a 1/4" thick piece 34"x32" for something like $90-$100 I think, so your price seems very high. Maybe it was the cost of drilling holes in it?

: I took my Plexiglass top over to a galss place to see if they could copy it (1/4" safety glass w/ 8 holes) and when they finally gave me a price my jaw dropped! $175! I said nevermind (that would have cost me more that any single part that I used to build this with)
