Slim Jim has some excellent ideas, back up what you did and make sure the original setup still works. Then slowly work forward again.
One thing you may be experiencing is electrical noise. Long wires running around next to your monitor will pick up all sorts of electrical noise. If its too much your keyboard controler may be seriously confused. Some correctly grounded shielded wire MAY help you if you determine that this is your problem.
