Well, rather than take this down to an ugly level I'll just say this... Some people want to do things one way and some want to do it another... There's no need to say someone's idea is "dumb" because it differs from yours.
Now then, having said that... Someone explain to me how taking a plastic shell off a monitor has anything to do with playing with high voltages? Other than the fact that there IS high voltage running inside and you have removed one layer of protection between you and it. Call me crazy but the only way you are gonna get "zapped" is if you try and remove the flyback transformer... Just not seeing how removing the plastic shell is going to cause all hell to break loose.
