Well if you're playing Pac-Man - that panel better only have player start buttons, or it's not "authentic"... (more)

Authenticity is nice to strive for, but for multiple games, it's practically impossible to acheive as (almost) every game's controls are different; unless you plan on having 1000+ different control panels. :P
Everybody finds their own compromise between authentic appearance and usability.
Saying there is no advantage to a single panel is to ignore that some people either don't have the storage space to put them, or the desire to swap panels every 5 minutes, or any number of other reasons. Besides, I've seen some all-in-one panels that in my opinion look really cool. Try to keep in mind that to call an idea "retarded" just because it's not what you would do is not a nice thing.

: There is absolutely no advantage to this sort of thing over swappable control panels. This is the way to go. On panel with a million buttons and controls looks dumb as hell and is anything but authentic looking but individual panels with unique controls functions better because you have the controls that you need when you need them and it gives your cab several different looks to it, all authentic in there own way. And to all those people that say that it costs more to make swappable cp's, Yeah, the price of a little extra wood is through the roof these days!
