In MAME go to the OPTIONS menu item --->> DEFAULT OPTIONS and underneath the VECTOR tab, bring the beam down to around 1.0, this will make the vectors brighter.... check by going back and forth to Asteroids. I also believe unchecking translucency OR Anti-Alias will unblus the vector games. Can't remember at the moment how I have my vector global settings at because I am at work responding to this post.
