I'm running win98se DOS (bootgui=0, not in a DOS box) and ArcadeOS with the standard 0.36 MAME in a JAMMA cabinet. I will eventually have a dedicated PC to power the cab but for now I'm using my main box and I switch cables when I want to play games.
I have tried Advanced MAME and couldn't get it to work with ArcadeOS shift functions so I abandoned that project right away. In all fairness, I haven't tried AdvMame all that long and I will most likely try it again once I get my dedicated PC for the cab.
But for now, I am using a Creative Labs 3D-Blaster AGP 32MB RIVA TNT2 Ultra videocard and I have my arcade monitor positioned horizontally.
When I had MAME set to do auto resolution, I had to adjust the monitor's vertical size to get vertical games to display on the monitor which of course makes the horizontal games that much smaller.
Last nite, I fiddled around with selecting video modes myself on some games and fiddled with skiplines and/or columns. I found that I got some games to look much better by choosing my own resolutions.
Here's the heart of my question....I know, I know, finally....What available 15KHz ARCADE MODE video modes do some of you with Voodoo3 and ATi cards have at your disposal?
Here's the modes I have available to me with the TNT2 Ultra card:
224x288
256x256
256x240
288x224
320x240
320x256
352x240
352x256
368x224
368x240
368x240
368x256
512x256
512x224
512x448
512x512
640x480
Now, the only reason I know I have these modes available to me is that I chose them from within ArcadeOS. The one's that worked in 15KHz are listed above, the other modes reported back error messages about not being supported in Arcade 15KHz mode.
How many more modes may I have available to me with an ATi, G400 or Voodoo3 card?
BTW, in MAME.cfg I have:
triplebuffer = yes
tweak = yes
vesamode = vesa3
