Idea on wiring a home made spinner to keyboard

: I've got and old IBM mouse that I took apart that I want to make into a spinner. The thing is that the mouse wheels are not the slotted kind, they are all in one housing unit with leads that attach to mouse board. It has three leads coming out the housing, I assume one is common lead other two are for direction. Just my idea was to wire this up to a keyboard hack I have driving my mame cabinet. Would this be possible to due (voltage from keyboard enough to power it? it will get the right spin factor? etc?)?? : Thanks for help : Bill
