build you own spinners from a mouse to an OPTI-PAC?

I know the OPTI-PAC is on hold but gotta question. If I were to build 2 spinners, (X and Y) from a mouse, could I wire that up to an OPTI-PAC? And if I did that, would I still be able to use a HAPPs trackball and install a switch to swap between the TB and spinners?
