I would have gone with a 3" but I had space limitations on my control panel so I bought the 2 1/4". Functionally there is no difference just which you like better. To me the 3" is a man's ball and the 2 1/4" is for those girls who can't take it, but my control panel is packed and I do want my wife to be happy after all the money I am spending on this project.
The one good thing you can't tell from the happs website is that red and blue translucent balls are available in both the 2 1/4" and 3" sizes if you are interested in that option.
I just got off the phone with HAPPs, called to add the light socket to my order. The part number they list on the webpage exploded view is discontinued but they did sell me another for about $2 and 10 light bulbs (minimum purchase) for .17 cents each. She told me the part numbers but I didn't write them down.
And like Gordzilla said you can use regular pool balls in the 2 1/4" trackball so I plan to put in the 13 when my buddy comes in town thinking he is going to break my high score!
