: : Depending on how you have the controlls interfaced, hot swapping shouldn't be a problem. I have a keyboard hack that stays in the cab and the panels connect to it with an Amphenol cable. This way the computer only sees the hack and you can hot swap the panels. I haven't built a trackball panel yet, but I plan on having a mouse hack stay inside the cab, so when the comuter boots up it sees the mouse, then during game play you could plug in the trackball panel and use it as well.

An Amphenol cable is a cable with a fifty pin connector on the end, that's all. This means I have a total of 25 inputs that swap on my control panels. (Two joys w/ six buttons each and 1 & 2 player starts is only 22) It works really well.
