Wow, THE Prophet. You do great work, but that's not important now. . .

The monitor is very bright. I set it up the way I set up any VGA monitor; Contrast is maxed out, Brightness is toned way down. In fact, I believe I have the brightness all the way down and the black mask of the monitor (I think it's called a mask) still has a bit of that glow that I prefer to get rid of. It's not altogether bad though, and when I pull up a game all of the little electrons seem to get sucked into the game picture itself so the brightness/whiteness problem goes away.

Interestingly, I only see that whiteness when it's in Windows and DOS, the two places the monitor will spend the least of its time. :-) I believe it's because there's a lot more color being driven in the games.

Ok, I just loaded Metal Slug to check out the brightness. I have it turned all the way down. If I start turning it up quite a bit, the picture starts to saturate. I would say the brightness is very similar to the Metal Slug 3 at my local arcade.

All things considered, I'm very happy with the picture quality. I tried out the 27" from WG (a local distributor was kind enough to give me some time with it) and it just didn't cut the mustard in terms of being friendly to some of the resolutions I wanted. For example, I had to run PacMan at 640x480 which made the screen postage stamp sized. This NeoTec monitor doesn't have that problem. If anything, the Neotec is also more user-friendly because it seems to use a digital memory to remember how the user has adjusted the screen for a specific resolution and refresh rate. As for brightness, I'd say the Neotec and WG are very similar not having seen them side by side.

Finally, most 3rd party video drivers for Windows will let you control brightness, contrast, and gamma with sliders. I haven't felt it necessary to use these with this monitor. The image is just where I want it with the default settings.

I hope that answers your question. LMK if you have any others. BTW, do you live in the San Jose, CA area? We should play some games!

: Just curious, how bright is it? Is it comparable in brightness to a TV or real arcade screen?
