Remember that there are other cheaper laminates available that will hold up well on a control panel. For my panel I used WilsonArt brand laminate. I got it at Home Depot, but it was considerably cheaper than Formica ($1.50/sqft vs. $2.50/sqft). It works just as well, and still comes in a good number of colors. I think you can even get a leather texture if you're really looking for the pimped out cabinet.

: : Your suggstion of Plywood and contact paper will work - its been done before. I believe the Roswell machine was done with a mural piece of wall covering.

: : Personally, I use pine because it is cheap. I then cover it with either the CP overlay material from Happs, or black formica. I just completed a Tron CP with formica and it turned out great.

: : : Well everyone, I'm going to be building a few control panels shortly and I'm wondering what the easiest way to build them is. I'm not worried about using plexiglass as I already have it for my current panel and is the only one I really want it for. The cool part about my panel I'll be building is this: I really only need to build my panels in an L-shape (top and front). The cab is the sides. I was considering using plywood and then just using plain wallpaper with computer graphics on it and then covering with contact paper. Would this work good? Suggestions?
