Matrox is notorious for NOT implementing low resolution VESA modes! I think Gx00VBE is your best chance to get any VESA low res support at all from a G200 under DOS (I am not 100% sure because my experience is only built on my old Matrox Millenium but it really sucked running MAME because of the poor VESA support. I have not even bothered to check out a Matrox G200 card that i got for free yet)...
