Also, you don't need the inertia to come from the knob. My design uses a flywheel. I think Billybob is also using a flywheel of sorts. So, the weight of the knob doesn't matter.
Not a bad idea though. On my first prototype I used the knob from my WASHER! It was toooo big, but it worked - just looked funny as heck.
: Would a rubber hockey puck not work well? You can drill a hole in it, and it would be very dyrable and have lots of inertia.
