You are referencing a post that I made. Let me tell you what has happened since then... I was 1 day away from making an hour long road trip to pick up a Phillips over the RCA because it had better features, higher resolution, clearer picture, Consumer Reports liked it, and it was priced at $299. Well, I found a local store running a sale on the RCA F27664, RCA's most expensive 27" TV (expect for their "console" style TV). It has comb filters, dark tube, etc,etc,etc... And it was on sale for $299. RCA.COM sells if for $399, and it lists for $499. LuSiD's TV goes for $279 on RCA.COM, and lists for $349. I jumped on this deal as it was a nice TV, and I didn't have to drive.

It works very nice with PC games, and DVD output, but I have yet to try it from DOS and MAME. I am using the ATI Rage Fury II as well, and it looks pretty good. This TV has so many features, I wish that my 27" in my living room had S-Video, and it would go in my cabinet, and the new one would be my regular TV. Anyhow, I am happy with it so far, and don't expect any problems down the road.

If I had to pick between the RCA 27" and the Phillips 27" that I talked about, and they were priced the same, and at the same store, etc... I would probably go with the phillips though as it had a slightly higher resolution, and a little better comb filter (cleaner picture)...

Just my experience, others' experiences may vary.

: I'm about ready to start my cabinet based on the infamous LuSiD plans (thanks!)... last question is the type of TV. I saw the earlier thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/wwwboard/messages/8564.html) on the RCA F25625 vs Phillips TP2784C and am struggling with the following:

: 1) The RCA is a proven quanity (via LuSiD's cabinet) and seems to work well with the ATI Rage Fury... has anyone tried the Phillips?

: 2) How does the S-VIDEO connection compare to the video quality of an arcade monitor (I know it is not going to be SVGA or RGB level quality but are things fairly crisp without strobing or other artifacts)?

: 3) Can windows run reasonably legibly (i.e. enough to navigate around, move files, start games) etc. at 800x600 with an S-Video connection?

: 4) How do real PC games (e.g. Unreal Tournament) look on the ATI Rage Fury + TV combo?

: 5) How well does the Rage run modern 3D games (like UT)?

: Thanks!
