(documenting this sure beats working!)

Having cut out the main cabinet sides, and the marquee and control panel extensions I needed to find a way to attach them. While at the hardware store last night I bought some joiners, flat plates about 4"x6" with dozens of nail like protrusions. I laid the wood flat on the back porch and hammered the flat plate onto both.

Next I needed to start attaching the 2"x2"s to the sides. First I marked 1/2" in from the front of the cabinet so that the front panels would be set in from the edge. Then I took scrap boards and double checked how everything would fit.

I used 2"x4"s for the bottom. Since the cabinet will be 24 inches wide, I cut 2 pieces 24 inches long to be attached to the front and back panels and I cut 2 pieces 19 1/2" and attached these to the sides, extending off the bottom of the side panel by an inch. I'm using 2" sheetrock screws to attach everything and they are doing fine.

Next I started working up the back of the cabinet attaching 2"x2"s so that the back panel would be flush with the sides, not set in like the front. I cut the pieces so that they were almost the entire length of the back, back/top slant and top section, but leaving about an inch open on each end.

When placed the 2"x2" on the very top that extends out on the marquee side panel, I had to think about how I was going to attach the fiberglass marquee. I'll write about that tomorrow and let you know my solution when I construct it tonight. I will also get some pictures out on a website tonight.

Sincerely,
