: You can blow the pad's and the memory card port's fuses.

Ouch, that's what I was afraid of. What precautions would you suggest to prevent that from happening? And in the case it should happen, how easy would it be to fix it? (For example, could you just open it up and replace the fuse?)

: Playstation controllers usually have a ground (going to each button), so you only need 15 pins(14 for buttons, one for ground). A parrallel port (printer) conector should be fine.

Oh, well then. I saw a page that showed it rigged with each individual button having two lines, but I guess the controller probably has those extra connections daisy chained by default?

: : Third, what kind of joystick should I use? Should I get one with a 4 way option, or is it even worth the bother on a PSX?

: If you plan to use game collections (ie. Namaco Musuem), then it might be worth while.

They're not my main focus, but I'll probably make a panel for them with a four way.

: You'll have to look around in the archives for reviews/info about this joystick, but the Super beat the Competition in all 'tests'.

I looked around, but I didn't see anything about the Competition, just the super/ultimate/universal. I'm thinking I'll go with the super as it's been suggested by most, or possibly the universal, seeing as it has both 4 way and 8 way settings.

: It's personal preference as to whether or not you want concave or convex buttons, I personally don't like convex buttons. The only other different between the horizontal microswitch and the competition, is that you can you a thicker control panel material.

Hmmm... I might use a combination of the two in some cases then, ie. the guard button in Soul Blade being a Concave so the thumb rests easy in it while the attack buttons being convex.

Thanks,
-Trevor
