Not really sure. I did a lot of checking and there was info on people that had tried the diodes, but after much soldering I went to a hacked joypad and then a hacked powerramp. Both of these worked acceptably, but not nearly as well as the IPAC. The IPAC has mame defaults for the keys or you can set it up for other keys. Check Andy's page for more in depth info.
