The author of OptiMAME dropped further development of OptiMAME since the author of EMU+ incorporated the OptiMAME additional functionality (+ much more from other projects like MAMEJoy etc.) in EMU+. So there was no need for a separate update of OptiMAME since EMU+ is keeping up with the official version of MAME.

I am writing a frontend that will make it possible to use different versions of MAME for different games. I am planning on using OptiMAME or EMU+ for the games that requires it (with optical and analogue devices not supported in an acceptable way by regular MAME), Advanced MAME for games that requires it (with video modes not supported in an acceptable way by regular MAME) and KBMAME for NEO*GEO games etc. I will off course use regular MAME for the rest of the games…

: I should have used better wording - i didn't really mean "optimized" as such, I meant "support" as in the 2 spinners and such that you mentioned. What I really want to be able to do, for instance, is play 2 player side by side Off-road with 2 spinners, etc.

: I am shocked to here it is "defunct". Does that mean Andy just doesn't want to keep it up?

: Are folks just using "older" versions or has everyone switched to EMU+?

: BB

: : : : What are the differences between it and regular MAME and for which games is it optimized?

: : It's not really optimized for any games, it just lets you use two trackballs, remap mouse functions on the fly (for using two steering wheels, or two spinners)
