Hmm... maybe I'm just so used to things after all this time, but maintaining MAME is a breeze. Practice makes perfect!

I'd have to write a book to explain exactly how I do things but I'll say a few things:

1) My fave MAME is Advance MAME which also has an included frontend similar to ArcadeOS. Expect a new version soon with even more features. MAME32 is OK, but really only for beginners or ppl whose OS can't run DOS MAME. Or those who like it better I guess... I don't.

2) A@H (which I beta tested for) should support all the current MAME builds just fine. In fact I have it running today's 37b4 reelease just fine. And why are you making your own game list files? That shouldn't be necessary at all. A@H just uses the executable to generate updated lists.

3) You may want to check out www.mameworld.com for some other frontends as well. Plus they offer tons of helpful things you may enjoy etc.

4) I believe Emu+ incorporates Optimame now.

: The actual MAME program is starting to become a hassle.

: I've been trying to decide on a version / front end etc. There seems to be no good option.

: Initially I loved mAME32 but there seems to be little updating and it doesn't support some favourites (like super off-road)

: Tried the DOS version in Windows with many front ends - most not very good. The 2 promising one's have dissappointed - MAME Launcher nags for money and disables features, and is a little cheesy.

: Arcade@Home is apperently not updated much if ever, the msg board is hostile, and making your own game list files is incredibly tedious.

: Was excited about Optimame and dual spinner support - but apparently it is defunct too.

: Am currently trying Unofficial MAMELang32 - we'll see.

: Don't even get me started on ROM management etc.

: I know it's all free and excellent but the initial amazement and adoration has turned to utter frustration.

: What's everyone else do??
