A stand alone degaussing coil is a big hoop basically about 13 or so inches in diameter. You would not reall install it or anything... just have it handy for when you need it. It comes with instructions on how to use it. In a nutshell you turn it on far away from the monitor and make a slow circular motion moving slowly closer and closer to the monitor. When you get up to the monitor move away in a slow circle until you are far away again. It looks cool cuz the picture does a weird hoola. heh anyway...

go here to learn more then you ever wanted to know about a degauss coil.

: I was wondering how you hook up a degausing coil and how does it work?
: I will be making my rotating monitor mount and it looks like I will need this??

: : : I ordered a degausing coil from Happ Controls today and I will report on how it works here and on my site when it arrives.

: : : Jon... in a earlier post you responded to my question on how to move a games image to the center of the screen using command line parameters (-skipcolumn and -skipline i believe). Anyway, when I try those, nothing happens. Do you know what values are correct and what may be wrong. Thanks for your input in both cases!

: : Yeah, sorry about that, those settings were for an earlier version of mame. With Mame 36b Beta's its the -centerx N and -centery N commands (where N is a number from -8 to 8 on the x axis and -16 to 16 in the y axis).

: : I've tried these on my arcade monitor and they do work, sorry for the previously incorrect info!

: : Jon,
