Alas, I was thinking of doing the same thing, but...

You will be able to get the USB interface to work in a DOS box. But, if you plan on running MAME in pure DOS (i.e. with ArcadeOS), forget it.

There is no USB support in DOS. Check out www.usb.org for more info. Search their message boards for "DOS".

Their message board contains countless posts from people frustrated that they can't use their USB keyboards/mice in DOS!

: I'm thinking of getting one of HAPP's UGCI kits. Has anyone used it with DOS MAME running in pure DOS mode (of Win95)?

: How well do these boards work? My keyboard hack with diodes seems to work well, but I'm thinking of adding a real trackball instead of a hacked mouse. If I do that, should I just get the trackball interface or the Fighting UCGI?

: Also, I've never used a USB port. Is there anything tricky about them? Any sort of versioning I need to be aware of? I'd hate to drop a couple hundred bucks and not have it work. I have a fairly new motherboard, Intel SE400BX with built in USB ports. So I think it should work.
