I'm pretty sure that MAME supports the use of num-lock and caps-lock LEDs to indicate that a coin has been received. I don't know if this works for all games or what.
Also, though I haven't used it yet, the I-PAC appears to support the attachment of LEDs that act like keyboard lights. I think you can even get the panel mount LEDs with it. It's cost is somewhere around $50.00 I believe.
