The KE72-T supports active low but the circuit can be modified to support active high (se my previous posting "Re: HAPP Trackball, active low or active high?".

A friend of mine substituted the original optical circuits (in a steering wheel from Sprint) with a gutted mouse and it works perfect.

I don't think that it would be that hard to connect the original PCB to the KE72-T (probably works right out of the box) so I would try to keep it. But a PCB from HAPP is a safe and easy solution if you don't want to mess with the original...

Below is a quote from HAPP about the KE72-T and active low or high:

----8<----[Quoted answer from Stan at Hagstrom Electronics]----
"Dear Robert,
Thank you for your email. Our KE72 supports "active low" trackballs.
However, it can be made to accept "active high" trackballs by placing 2.2K
ohm resistors on each of the four trackball signals to ground. In the future
our KE72 Keyboard Encoder will contain a jumper selection to allow for
"active low" or "active high" trackballs to be used without doing the
modification mentioned above."

: I belive both Pole Pos and Super Sprint use an optical steering wheel, however I'm not sure if they are active HIGH or active LOW. You'll need to find this out, and ensure they are electrically compatible with the KE72.

: Another option is to not use the PCB that comes with the steering wheel, buy the PCB from happs and use it. That will definately work.

: : I would like to use a steering wheel pulled from a pole position, sprint, off road, etc. How do I interface this with my KE72? Thanks...
