: Aren't we all amateurs, though?

Sorry... I took slight offense to the way you put things... Basically like I didnt 'think' - I just built it. After all that I went thru to design it, buy parts for it, spend many grewling hours of building custom parts... ect... I guess it just erked me.

: I think I can see what you mean about the different sides. I guess I'm more from the traditional gaming school where one would want to be able to stand up against the front of the console and get to the coin doors, etc.

Well, in fact, how close do you stand? Is your body actually toucking all the time? The max distence of standing is arround 6 inches. Not bad at all. As far as old school goes... well you cant always have your cake and eat it too. Storing 6 panels in various places and also the change time is unacceptable for me. I barly have time as it is. Coin Door? Dont need one of those, its all on freeplay :) Computer is right beside it for easy access to all cd drives and ports. Also, easy to move, and dissasemble.

: About the KE72... Were you able to get one of the new addons that someone on here was talking about that does the keystroke conversions for you, or did you make it yourself?

I became pretty interested in one of those when I first heard about it, but the lack of spinner on my control panel kinda negates the need.

Yes, I had them make me a Prototype add on board. Unfortunately, Ive yet to test it as my spinners are 'as of yet' incomplete. Maybe this weekend...

: It would be pretty interesting to see what you come up with for the switches. My thinking is that a nice solid state relay would handle the switching properly. Maybe have a light-up button on each side of the panel and when you rotate to that side, press the button, the light lights up and that side works. One would just have to be careful not to turn the control panel too many times in one direction without turning it backwards... Unless you have a really slick connector that works through the axel so it can be rotated infinately... Might not be too hard if the encoder is mounted inside of the control panel itself. Then you'd only have to connect maybe five or six pins. (total active, non-redundant connections is a PS/2 mouse and keyboard).

Well, there will be a 'Stop' so the panel will only rotate like 359 degrees :) As far as relays go, Ive not used them, and an not too good with electronics. I know just the basics. Simple things like a printer switchbox for joysticks... or wiring in parrallell with flip switches in between is more or less how thing will go. Worst case senerio... Put ports on the sides, and plug a joystick extender cable into the appropriate analouge port(s).

All in all - even If it were not possible to do it all today... would you limit tommorow? I didnt want to re-build everything based on weather or not something would or wouldnt work today. And am 98 percent sure I can get everything to work as it stands (with protoboard).

And yes, the Ke72 will be mounted inside under the 'desktop' panel. All wires are fed thru the metal tube (a hole is cut in the middle) and out the side of the pipe - which goes to the computer.

Untill the advent of Holodeck 80's arcades... this is as good as I can come up with :) Im a big classic fan, and played a large number of these games growing up. (still growing up... well, maybe not... :)

Sincerely,
Steve
:)

PS: Ill provide more descriptions as I have completed the entire project.
