Total size of all Mame games including Neo Geo is about 1.7 Gigs. You don't really need a large harddrive at all but you should also consider the fact that mame is constantly expanding. The smallest new ones you usually see any more is about 4 gigs which will be more than enough for just Mame. I myself am emulating every system possible on an arcade monitor plus windows and I am using a 10 gig hard drive. Every rom for the systems excluding N64 adds up to somewhere near 8 gigs so if all you are doing is playing roms on your system nothing bigger than 10 gigs is needed really. If you are going with just mame than 4 gigs will be fine. As for a sound card, I think any SB16 card will do.
