For emulators other than mame, they will have an app file so arcadeos knows how they work. (zsnes.app etc.) You can edit this, you will see a line for description file. This gives the name of the text file that contains the descriptions.(zsnes.nms) You need one for each emulator. The format for the file is each line has a description, the pipe character, rom name.(Rollerball|roller~1).
In order to create this on my windows machine in a dos box I went to my rom directory and typed dir >c:\t.wri This creates a text file of your directory. I then loaded into wordpad and deleted header lines and footer lines so all I had left was lines with file names. I then replaced all . with a couple of spaces to seperate the extensions from the file names. I then opened excel and opened the file and imported as space delimited and kept the filenames as text and skipped everything else. This gave me a spreadsheet with 2 columns. I cut col A and inserted after B to get them in the right order. I then saved as a comma delimited file. Opened with wordpad replaced all , with | I proofread and added spaces where needed for readability and saved with the name I needed. If your file names aren't very descriptive you may need to type something but it's still worth the effort. I hope this helps.
