What I wanted to do was use my arcade buttons and joysticks to control both MAME and Playstaion. I did not want to use the playstation pads at all.
I could hook them both up to the arcade controls,(via an i-pac interface for the computer and a hacked playstaion pad for the playstaion,) but if I accidently left one on (playstation/my computer)I fear that I might ruin my computer(the keyboard input would see the voltage from the playstaion).
I think that I have figured a way to do what I want! I bought an a/b box data switch for 7 dollars. I will wire up the input to the arcade buttons and joysticks and then the two outputs will be used for the I-pac control (MAME), and the other will go to the hacked playstation pads(playstation). Now when I want to play playstation I select "B" and when I want to play MAME I select "A."
I don't see why this will not work. All I have to do is cut one of the wires inside of the a/b box that links one input pin to both channels. (I think this pin is used for a common ground or power.) Since my arcade controls have 24 switches and both the I-pac interface and the playstation pads have a common ground on them I will only need 25 pins!
I think.
