Make sure you have a different pc (one with more horsepower) doing the actual playing of the mp3 files. I am not sure if that is what you meant or not. You could just be using the pc in the bedroom as a file server as far as I can tell. The screen sounds small but decent size touch screens are expensive.

: I'm doing a MP3 jukebox for the Home. I have a 400-500 CD library that I am preparing to digitize. I want to rip the entire albums as opposed to getting a hodge podge of singles from Napster. I'd rather rip the CD's myself anyway since I already got'em. I have already installed a TDK CD ripper/burner($220) into my PC. It reads audio data from CD's at 20x!!! I think this is one of the fastest drives out there for that. Even though you see drives these days at 58x or whatever it is - they still only read audio data at very slow speeds. Getting a fast ripper was crucial, since I have so many Cd's to process. I also installed a 40 Gb Maxtor HD($305 w/photoshop) into my PC. That should give me plenty of space for all my CD's and more. I have already made a trial run of running a line from the line level jack of my sound card to my stereo which was over 60' of cable run. My Yamaha amp seemed to deal with it just fine despite the little extra amplification needed. There is a site I found which specializes in making cable for long line level runs. If I get that it should even sound better. I guess I could also look into upgrading my Ensoniq PCIAudio card as well. Anyways, I guess I will have to run yet another line up through my bedroom wall into the attic and then back down my family room wall. (I've already done this a few times with lines for my DSS.) I want to have the music available primarily in the pool area and the yet-to-be-built gameroom (this is where the sports bar, pool table, and Mame Machine will be.) Also, I want to try something wild for the operation of the Jukebox. I bought an old Ricoh GS-1200 pen computer on Ebay($240). It has a 9" touchscreen(which I'm primarily interseted in) and a blistering 50MHz 486 processor. It does run Win 95 fine. I got a hub and NIC cards for my PC and the pentop and I am in the process of networking them. Eventually I want to write a program that will run on the pentops and which will effectively control the MP3 jukebox located on my bedroom PC. I would mount the pentop in the wall and users would just touch the screen to select songs they would like to hear. Playlists will be fairly easy to generate due to CDDB.COM, but I would also like to have pictures of the album art pop up on the screen as well. I think I could write it in HTML, but its a little early yet. This would be the ultimate Jukebox! If the pentop interfaces work, I could also use them to control lighting, climate, sprinklers, etc - Now that would be cool! What do y'all think?
