: : : I have designed my panel with two joysticks, 12 buttons, trackball and spinner (modified wingman warrior spinner using guts of a std serial mouse). I also just ordered the Hagstrom encoder - got tired of messing with various hacks. Question is this - how is everyone dealing with using both a std mouse type spinner and tracball on the same machine? In other words, do most ppl simply reach inside their cabinet and switch the spinner and trackball serial cables or is there a cheap way to do this on the fly? The Y-Mouse for $50.00 seems way to expensive for such a simple task.

: : - If you have a serial trackball and ps/2 mouse(spinner) or vice versa, you can plug them both in and have Windows look for new hardware. It will see the serial device and also the ps/2 device and you can use them both at the same time so you don't have to switch. The only catch is that the computer sees them both as the mouse so you can't use them for the same game at the same time. You really wouldn't need to do this anyway since you wouldn't need the spinner to play Tempest and the trackball too, only the spinner, so it works out very well. Hope this helped.

: Great idea Brian! My computer does indeed have both types of ports. Unfortunately, my computer wont or cant find the PS2 port. I have run the add new hardware wizard several times and have manually installed the PS2 mouse driver that came with my trackball. However, the system device manager shows an error message that the device is not present, not working properly, or does not have the correct drivers installed. Any one know how to make the computer detect the PS2 mouse???
