Dave,
Look at the diagram on the left. See where the lines do that little "split" between the rubber grommet (it's narrower at the top and wider at the bottom) and the actuator (the "hourglass"-looking piece)? That's where the top-and-bottom separation happens. The bottom-most pieces on the top of the control panel are on the left: the circular disk and the above-mentioned grommet. The actuator and everything on the right of the diagram go underneath the panel. Make sense? If not, lemme know!
