When roms are zipped, MAME does not care about the names inside, only the CRC.
I do not know how other emulators handle this, but it gives you some flexibility.
: : Are you using NeoRAGEx or MAME? Some of the ROMS that work for MAME will not work for NeoRAGEx. All of the Neogeo games will run correctly and will be recognized if you have gotten them from www.mame.dk and run them in either MAME or NEOMAME. Try http://neoworm.burnknuckle.com/download.html to get the ROMS for NeoRAGEx. I have three folders on my computer. 1 for MAME only. 1 for MAME and NeoRAGEx and 1 for NeoRAGEx only. This saves space and leaves me the flexibility to use either. Some of the games for mame us split sets and I believe have different CRC's than the other. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
: I'm not too sure about the different CRC, but I do know that the NeoRageX ROMs have different names inside of the zip file than the NeoGeo ones. The filesize seems to be exactly the same for all of the files, so I'd imagine the CRC is. Does anyone have a list translating the names of the original roms (as used in NeoRageX) to the names of the ROMs as used in MAME zips? Then I could just write a translator...
