This should work, but 8-way joysticks only have 4 inputs on them (from Happs). You get eight directions by it pressing down and right at the same time etc.
You should be able to share the connections though if you want to use only one at a time.

: Any one know why he can't get email?? I've tried sending it to andy@spaceinvaders.uk.com and the mailer keeps saying the relaying is denied.. Anyway, maybe someone here can answer my questions..

: I am interested in the I-Pac interface, mainly because I am not too good when it comes to electrical circuits, and even THINKING about doing a keyboard hack makes my eyeballs hurt.

: I have a couple of questions about it...

: 8 way joysticks use 4 inputs, correct? Does an 8 way top button joystick use 5 then?
: Is it possible, on an IPac, to assign multiple inputs??

: I.E.. The control panel I want to make, is like this...

: 1 4 way joystick ( 4 inputs )
: 2 - 8 way joysticks ( 8 inputs )
: 2 - 8 way top button joysticks ( 10 inputs )
: 12 player buttons - 6 per player ( 12 inputs )
: 1 player button
: 2 player button
: 1 player credit
: 2 player credit ( 4 total )

: This totals to 38 inputs, correct?

: Well, what I was thinking to get around that..

: I'm pretty sure that in using the top button sticks, for games like robotron, smash tv, etc.. I could map the inputs on those joysticks to 10 of the player button inputs.. since I'd almost never need to use both sticks and the buttons at the same time.. In the same note, I would map the 4 way joystick with the same as one of the 8 way joysticks.. since, again, I would not be using the 4 way at the same time as the 8 way.

: Does this make sense to you?? And, would it be possible using the IPac?

: Also.. would it be possible to have multiple control panels using ONE I-Pac? Aside from the joystick one I have outlined.. I'd like a
: trackball/spinner panel, and possible sometime in the future, a flight control/steering wheel panel.

: I think I know how I could do it, but was wondering if anyone knew a way already to do it.

: Thanks for the time, and I hope someone can aye/nay these ideas : )
