When no chats were scheduled, no one was able to meet. You came in at random times and unless you were *really* lucky, you saw no one in the chat room. With scheduled chat the randomness is gone and a chat session of 6 or more is common. We're trying out the everyday chatting right now, and seeing which days are worthwhile. About Efnet, the kind of ease of finding the chat can cause problems, here it's findable only on here and http://irc.datasync.com (and it's only seeable while a chat is going on with that site). Makeing "hostile takeovers" like I've seen happen to the Arcade@home chat, much less likely.
Oh, yeah the chat is open 24/7, if you feel like popping your head in at random times go ahead.
