Mouse PS/2 vs Serial port in DOS??

My computer is running pure DOS and fully sees the mouse (trackball) while it is connected to the PS/2 port. I just bought a HAPPS trackball that connects to the serial port. Should I expect that this will work in DOS as well? Could I connect a Trackball to the serial port and a spinner to the PS/2 port?
