: I am using the hardware (it uses an optical encoder wheel) from an Arkanoid spinner control with the optics from a regular serial mouse. The problem is that when I turn the knob very quickly (a frequent occurance in a groovin' game of Tempest) the cursor does not respond and/or jumps around, etc.... What causes this? Is there a good way to fix it? (I have already tried adjusting the sensitivity within MAME). I don't have the original arcade game electronics that go with the Arkanoid spinner. Thanks

You could remove every ther spoke off the encoder wheel. Thats what the TwistyGrip spinner has you do. Hope that helps. But with it being a "true" Arkanoid spinner I would try everything else first. Or not do it at all and work with what you've got.
