championship snes joystick eh? that just happens to be the first arcade control hack i performed. i bought that snes joystick when mortal kombat first came out for snes. i simply used an el cheapo computer gamepad and hacked it. even though it was my first time soldering it still went well. this joystick is perfect for such a hack. it already has all of the wires you need. simply disconnect them and solder them to the gamepad... it worked like a charm for me. also it will be much cheaper than buying a hotrod. i didn't mess up my gameport so don't be afraid. all your doing is making connections the same way the regular gamepad button press would. you have to be warry when testing a keyboard matrix but not a gamepad usually. when hooking up the wires open up the windows joystick settings and use the test option to see which buttons are being triggered. good luck.
