I can't speak for all games, but Mame games have no problem with you pressing 2 keys at once for a diagonal direction.

There is a problem that can occur called ghosting, but that only happens when you are using a keyboard matrix.

I use a KE72 and 2 - 8 way joysticks on one of my control panels. I can use both joysticks in a diagonal direction (like in Robotron) and the game responses perfectly.

: I have a powerramp and when I play Pacman and other 4 way games I have problems. It's my understanding that the game gets confused by receiving two signals simultaneously ie. UP+LEFT. Years ago I used to play a PC game(Star Control) where you could select any keys to control the game. There was a utility that let you test the keys to make sure they all worked together. Certain keys when pressed together would be interpreted as a diferent key altogether and some combos would cancel each other out. I was thinking that if I purposely selected keys for UP, RIGHT, DOWN and LEFT that when pressed together would cancel each other, then it would in effect make my 8way joystick a 4way. Has anybody tried this already? I don't want to waste time going down a dead end that somebody already has.

: Thanks
