....But I guess that makes me insane as well. Of course, I'm brand spanking new to this board, so please forgive my newbieness. I discovered MAME over a year ago, and I was totally blown away when I got it working on my PC at home. Exactly the same as the dang arcade of my youths. My fav game quickly became Scramble and I also spent time reacquainting myself with others like Crazy Climber, Zaxxon, etc. Even though it was cool to see and hear the games exactly as they were, there was something missing..... the feel of the game. I had an original thought back then in early '99 that it would be cool to mount a PC inside an old arcade cabinet and create the ultimate gaming machine. Little did I know that in fact I was probably the LAST person to come up with this idea. I kinda gave up on the idea because there was major landscaping to do around the house and kitchen cabinets to refinish. If I could have only found you guys then. Just tonite I happen to run across a HotRod controller on Ebay, and that woke up the MAME idea in me. After very little net cruising, I have found tons of info on how to create the machine of my dreams. To all of you who have documented your projects on the net and to the creators of this site I say "You guys are amazing". It's incredible, mind-boggling, just plain UN believable. Pardon my rant - I hope this is not your typical newbie post, but I am simply floored by all of your efforts.

Now, down to business - I have decided to make a run at my dream - YES, I am going to build the ultimate arcade machine - OR at least try to. I'm not going to try to build it fast, just right. I would definitely apreciate any help along the way. Let me run my initial thoughts by some of you who are still paying attention and tell me what you think. First, I'm going to build my own Cab. I'd like to make the control panel flexible enough to play all types of games. Definitely 2 joysticks and a slew of buttons. One question about an 8-way stick - Can it be wired with switches so that you can manually put the stick in 8,4,and 2 way modes? Or will a keyboard encoder ensure that a 8 way stick will not mess up a game intended for a 2 or 4 game stick? I'd also like to put a rollerball and a wheel on the panel as well. Definitely need that for Tron and Marble Madness! I'd like to run the wheel and Ball to the mouseport (guess I have to) and have them on some kind of switch that will select which one to use. Is this doable? I'd assume so. Are there any games out there that require both a wheel and a ball? any that require 2 wheels? (I guess that Monaco GP game does for more than one racer, huh? I'd even consider putting in 2 pedals for some racing games. Is that too much to set up? I haven't found how to set pedals up yet, but I'm sure the infop is out there.

Enuff about controls - I also plan on mounting computing hardware in the cab - motherboard, cpu, cdrom, HD, & necessary cards - any idea about the power needed in the CPU? I was thinking of trying to get a fast PII or K6. Are there motherboards out there that were made for this kind of thing? I was also thinking of getting the 19" SVGA mon from Happ, any thoughts on that? Well, like a newbie, I guess I showered y'all with too many questions. Again, any insight would be appreciated. This is a great site, and this looks like a great board community at first glance -

HELLO BOARD!
